Happy 4th of July to those of you who are American ! 🇺🇸
Today’s outfit of the day features these brand new jeans I just purchased from Zara. I’m in love with these embroidered jeans but I had such a hard time getting the sizing right! I first bought these jeans in a size 6 after trying on a size 4 in store and finding it too small. I just bought a size 6 without trying them on again assuming it would fit ( Zara changeroom lines are massive). I have two other pairs of jeans from Zara- both in size 6- one pair fits comfortably and one pair is massive on my hips. When I got home and put the jeans on, I found them to be tiny! I was so dissapointed and I brought them in a couple days later to exchange the size 6 for an 8. The size 8 fits me but it’s a tad loose around the waist. Has anyone else had weird sizing issues with Zara brand jeans or is it just me? 😝 Anyways, the jeans are still really cute and there’s no way I’m returning them again!
The grey cropped tank top I’m wearing is from Urban Outfitters, and the shoes are the Ruffle mules from Irene’s Story that I’ve been getting a lot of wear out of this summer. I decided to accessorize the outfit with this black wrap around string choker from Urban Outfitters.
This past weekend to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday my boyfriend and I embarked on a road trip up north to stay at my family’s cottage. Along the way we decided to stop at one of my favourite childhood ice cream spots – “Brainfreezz” which is located in this adorable old tiny town called Thornton . It’s a small little ice cream shop that runs out of an old house and it has been there for quite a while as I’ve been stopping there on summer day trips home from the cottage since I was about 8. They have some of the best ice cream flavours ever and the tastiest waffle cones! They also have amazing yogurt ice cream -which is what I ordered- and they allow you to choose either chocolate or vanilla frozen yogurt and mix it with two kinds of frozen fruit. I opted for vanilla frozen yogurt mixed with raspberries and blueberries in a waffle cone and it was incredible! My boyfriend ordered an ice cream flavour called raspberry cheesecake and he enjoyed it a lot as well.
I was going through my expansive photo library yesterday and I rediscovered a ton of photography I had taken on past vacations and trips. I decided to make a weekly thread where each Friday I’ll post a picture or two that I’ve taken from somewhere in the world.
This week, for my first Travel Photography Friday post, I’ve decided to feature some photos that I took on a trip to Aruba in April of 2015.
This little old chapel known as the Alto Vista was the first ever built in Aruba and is located in isolation amidst a desert landscape. The original church was built in the 1700s but this structure that stands there now was built in the 1950s. We had to rent ATV’s to reach this spot and it was an amazing experience.
A photo I took off the beach near where we were staying known as Eagle Beach. The waters were so clear and pristine and the sand was clean and well maintained. Definitely one of the best beaches I’ve ever been to.
Today’s outfit of the day for some finally summer-like weather features this adorable “babes club” t shirt from Forever 21. I love the big pink lettering (it kind of reminds me of Barbie) and I find it fun and a little retro. I tucked it into my Levi’s Jean shorts for a casual summer day look.
I purchased this set on sale a little while ago on Sephora’s website but I hadn’t gotten around to trying it out. I’m a big fan of the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara so I thought I’d try out their Better Than False Lashes line of mascara. This pretty packaged set contains two products that are meant to be used together : a mascara and primer and a little white bottle of synthetic lash extension fibers that are meant to give the “false lash” look.
According to the instructions on the back of the box, the gold prime and seal mascara gets applied first, acting as a base- and then the little white bottle of synthetic fibers gets used second- attaching the tiny white hair like strings to your eyelashes. Lastly, you use the first product again – the mascara- to “seal” the fibers to your lashes.
I’ll give you a look at my lashes without mascara so you can see the difference the product made. It’s a little hard to see my own lashes as they are very fine and dark blonde so without mascara they appear very sparse.
P.S. I’m not naked in these pictures 😝 I was wearing an off the shoulder top-I promise. Also this is me sans any makeup, whereas the after pictures include foundation and highlighter.
– My lower lashes look longer than my upper lashes…
VERDICT: I’m pleasantly surprised! I didn’t think I’d find much of a difference compared to the use of normal mascara but I feel like this product gave me much more lash length than the Better Than Sex mascara does! My lashes didn’t feel any fuller but definitely much longer. I was also surprised at how easy it was to use and how mess free it was! Other products with lash extension fibers that I’ve tried in the past left tiny hairlike threads all over my cheeks and didn’t quite stay on my lashes. However, I found no problems applying this mascara and it stayed on very well! Although the fibers initially did not irritate my eyes or contacts I did find as the day wore on my eyes felt a little drier than normal. Other than that however, the product does do a good job of what it’s intended for which is making lashes appear longer than regular mascara.
Today was a second day of rain, hail, and cold, which is really out of the ordinary for June, even in Canada. This has lead me to wear a lot of long sleeves and pants over the past week, which makes me so sad because I have so many summer clothes!
Today’s outfit of the day was this casual black high kneck tank top from Urban Outfitters and these light blue distressed boyfriend jeans from Lucky Brand. I love Lucky Brand jeans; they are so comfortable and such good quality. Also- all Lucky Brand jeans have an insert under the zipper that reads “Lucky you” when unzipped which I find clever and amusing. 😂
I tied my jeans around the waist with a simple black leather belt from h&m which was on sale recently for under 15 dollars.
I finished off the look with a pair of pink mule shoes from a small boutique in California. They are made by a company called Qupid.
I’ve just discovered this song and I can’t stop playing it so I thought I would share it! I really love this song and I find both the lyrics and the melody entrancing. I had never heard anything by this artist before but after hearing this beautiful song and his incredible voice I am an instant fan of his. I’m a huge fan of Indie/Alternative rock and I’m always on the look out for new artists to listen to and I’m so happy with this discovery! I will definitely be adding more of his music to my ever growing ITunes library.
Some of my favourite lyrics from the song include:
“Talking ain’t as easy when you’re down
I know you know I’m tryin’ to find the words to say
You told me you would always be around
But now you’re gone, I know that we are not okay
I’m so afraid of growing old
So don’t you go and leave me on my own”
“Looking for my answers from above
The only home I knew was for me and you”
I’ve inserted a link to the song on YouTube so that you can take a listen or you are interested! 💕
