Personal post: Weekend Recap

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and for those celebrating Father’s Day I hope it was good!

I spent most of Saturday morning studying for the GRE test that I have to take in the end of July for my Masters program and taking flatlay photography in my room (the photo above was taken then). ๐Ÿ˜I’ve developed a recent obsession for flatlay photography and I find it fun finding a mix of fashion items and knick knacks that go well together and capturing them in a photograph.

I wanted to mention something that I found quite fascinating that happened to me on Sunday. I’ll start with a bit of background information. 12 years ago, the summer after I turned 10, my aunt gave me a beautiful ring as a late birthday gift while my family and my cousins family were up at my grandparents cottage together. It was an adorable flower shaped ring- a blue stone in the middle, surrounded with tiny diamonds that made up the flower’s petals. I was so happy about the ring and so excited to wear it because It was truly the first piece of “real” jewellery I had ever received, so I put it on right away. The ring had been made a little too big for my tiny 10 year old fingers and after not even 5 minutes of chasing my cousins around the backyard while holding a red balloon, I felt myself accidentally let go of said balloon, which caused the ring to slip right off my finger. The entire backyard is made up of sand as the cottage backs onto a sand hill, so the ring landed somewhere in the sand making it impossible to see. I was so distraught over losing the ring that I remember crying for the rest of the day and for the rest of that weekend, my whole family searched for the ring. We never found it. We spent years looking for it every summer in the sand, using shovels and sifting pans but to no avail. Eventually we all forgot about it. Fast forward 12 years later and somehow my grandfather-who at 80 still manages to maintain a house and a cottage-was doing yard work in the backyard of the cottage when he spotted something shiny sitting on top of the sand. And lo and behold; it was the ring! He called me right away to tell me and I was so shocked! I never thought I’d see it again, especially not after 12 years had already passed! I visited my grandparents Sunday and was reunited with the ring at last. It actually fits me much better then it fit my younger self and it’s in great shape considering it weathered 12 years of rain, wind, snow, and dirt! ๐Ÿ˜

Here’s a picture of the ring after a happy reunion with it on Sunday! I still can’t believe that it was found after all these years!

Has anyone else lost something for a long time only to find it turn up randomly much later? Let me know in the comments ! ๐Ÿ˜Š
