Food Post 002: Waffles! 

Waffles are great. Mountains of fluffy goodness, drizzled in syrup and other wonderful things.

Since it was the long weekend here in Canada, I decided to check some things off my summer to do list. This involved visiting a little dessert cafe called Waffle U which is located about 15 minutes from me in Maple, which is in Vaughan, north of Toronto. It’s a small little restaurant, located in a strip plaza,  and the interior is very stylish and modern. My boyfriend and I got there around 5:00 in the evening, hoping that it wouldn’t be busy, as I’d been told by friends who had been before that the owner only makes a certain amount of dough per day and once it runs out he closes shop for the day.

When we arrived we were informed that there was only one waffle left, as it had been busy all day. We were fine with this as one waffle proved large enough for two people to share. Every waffle comes with Nutella, and either bananas or strawberries and your choice of ice cream or whipped cream. However, because I’m lactose intolerant, we opted to have whipped cream in a desperate cup so that my boyfriend could try it with the waffle. The waffle was amazing! We opted for Nutella and strawberries, and the consistency of the waffle was the perfect mix of crispy and soft. Definitely worth it!



The waffles are made with a dough that doesn’t involve yeast, and the owner/pastry chef is very nice and welcoming. He told us that starting this week, the summer menu would be starting which includes waffles in cones, on sticks, and with the option of putting candy, marshmallows, and other toppings on the waffle. So needless to say, we will be returning for the summer menu! 😍
